Housecall Pro price increase: what owners report and what to do this week

Short answer: on October 19, 2026, a Housecall Pro customer wrote on Trustpilot that frequent changes and a steep price increase had them planning a move to another platform. Other owners that month describe unclear add-on pricing and hard-to-reach cancellation. A likely cause is the step from a $99 promotional month to the $299 Max list price, plus $35 for every user over eight.

These are owner reports, not findings about the company. The checklist below works for any vendor.

What are plumbing owners reporting about Housecall Pro?

I read the one- and two-star page on Trustpilot on November 3, 2026. The company holds 2.9 out of 5 from 701 reviews. The six newest negative reviews, from October 16 to 30, 2026, fall into four groups. I paraphrase them and name nobody.

Two more describe product changes and support. Review sites over-represent unhappy people, and the company may dispute any of these points. Still, the pattern is the one owners report for most field service tools, and it is worth checking your own account against it. The page is linked in Sources.

Why does the bill jump?

Three mechanisms explain most jumps. I cannot tell which one hit a given reviewer, so read this as how the pricing works, not a diagnosis.

  1. Promotional pricing ends. Housecall Pro's pricing page shows limited-time offers, such as Max at $99 a month for three months. The standard Max price is $299. The step from $99 to $299 is a 202% rise on a single invoice.
  2. Users cost extra. Max includes 8 users. Each one after that is $35 a month. Hiring two techs and an office manager adds $105.
  3. Features sit on higher plans. Recurring service plans are listed on Max, not Essentials ($149 for 5 users). If you need memberships, you need the $299 plan.

Billing monthly instead of yearly adds more: Max is $329 a month billed monthly versus $299 billed yearly, a difference of $360 a year. The page also states card rates start at 2.59%, which is a separate cost that grows with revenue.

How much does a promo-to-list jump cost in year one and two?

Worked example, not a client result. A plumbing shop signs up for Max at the promo price of $99 for three months, then pays the $299 list price.

PeriodMathCost
Months 1 to 33 x $99$297
Months 4 to 129 x $299$2,691
Year one$297 + $2,691$2,988
Year two12 x $299$3,588

Eight users, yearly billing, prices as read on the pricing page on November 3, 2026. Year two is $600 above year one, a 20% rise with no change in the list price.

That 20% is the number to expect even when the vendor does nothing wrong. A vendor that also raises list prices on top of it produces the larger jumps owners describe.

What should I check before the next renewal?

Five steps, in this order. Each takes less than an hour.

  1. List every login. Count techs, dispatcher, office and yourself. Extra users are the quiet part of the bill.
  2. Find the renewal date and the notice rule. Look in your account terms and the sign-up email. Housecall Pro's page says no long-term contract is required; confirm what your own account says.
  3. Put the real price in writing. Ask for the monthly total after promotions, with every add-on and fee named. Do it by email so you have a record.
  4. Export your data now. Customers, jobs, invoices, price book. Check you can open the files. Do this before you are in a dispute, not after.
  5. Price one alternative. The plumbing software price guide lists published prices, and Service Fusion Pro is a flat $533 a month for unlimited users.

What does a 12-user shop pay if prices keep rising?

Example: 10 techs and 2 office staff on Housecall Pro Max. That is $299 + 4 x $35 = $439 a month, or $5,268 in year one. Suppose renewals rise 20% a year.

Compare CNL's One tool plan: $6,000 once, then $290 a month plus about $150 a month of hosting at cost. Over 36 months that is $21,840.

Is owning your software ever cheaper than renting?

For this shop, no. Renting costs $19,176 against $21,840 owned, and one rebuilt tool does not replace the whole suite. Owning only pulls ahead if increases run near 34% a year for three years, or if you pay for several tools at once. At 12 users with modest rises, keep renting.

CNL rebuilds the tools shops rent as one system they own: code in your GitHub, data in your own cloud account, no per-seat fees, a flat monthly fee locked for 24 months and a 30-day exit. It only starts a project when the audit shows payback inside 12 months of going live. Bigger shops with five or more tools on separate subscriptions are where that math tends to work, and the free audit shows which side of the line you are on within five business days. It does not rebuild email, accounting ledgers or payroll. See also how per-technician fees add up in the ServiceTitan pricing guide.

Tired of software prices that only go up? We will price the alternative.

Tell us which tools you pay for. Within five business days you get a free, line-by-line audit: what each tool costs you a year, what we would rebuild as one system you own, a fixed price, and the month it pays for itself. The plan is yours to keep either way.

Questions owners ask

Can Housecall Pro raise my price mid-term?

That depends on your agreement and its terms. Read the clause on price changes and notice. If it is not clear, ask support to state it in writing.

Why did my invoice triple?

The usual cause is a promo ending. A $99 first-quarter offer becomes the $299 list price. Extra users at $35 each and add-ons are the next place to look.

How do I cancel without paying twice?

Note the renewal date, send a written request, ask for a confirmation email, and check your next statement. Reviewers describe multiple contacts before a cancellation was handled, so keep copies of everything.

Is there a flat-price option?

Service Fusion publishes flat plans with unlimited users, from $208 a month (Starter) to $533 (Pro), billed yearly. Check that the plan includes the features you use.
